The impressive history of The Parkside dates from 1913 when the Gotzian Shoe Company hired prominent architect Cass Gilbert to design a new home for its growing manufacturing business. Gilbert’s stately complex was noted for its innovative Victorian Romanesque style, which was more intriguing than industrial. The grand old building served a variety of purposes over the years from producing high fashion footwear to commercial warehousing. Today, the Parkside is a unique luxury residential community in St. Paul’s fashionable Lowertown neighborhood, the creative and artistic center of downtown.
