Downtown Baltimore, four blocks from Inner Harbor, the Sail Cloth Factory was erected over a period 23 years (1888-1911), in an age when industry and inspired architecture were natural companions. This 5-story building originally housed the Gandy Belting Company. Here, sailcloth was first used as belting for early 20th century machinery. A hundred years later, this remarkable commercial landmark has made a stunning transition to luxury apartment building. Today, the building now known as the Sail Cloth Factory is a lavishly restored, luxury residential community with 107 distinctive apartments.
